Lalitha Naik Joins AAP
Quits Welfare Party?

Nomination of Ms. B. T. Lalitha Naik from Aam Aadmi Party for election from Gulbarga constituency surprised everybody here. Ms. Naik was one of the vice presidents of Welfare Party of India floated by Jamaat e Islami Hind and had not officially resigned from the Party, sources in the Welfare Party revealed. Ms. Naik who had been elected an MLA on JDS ticket, was a minister in the J. H. Patil cabinet from 1995 to 1999. Her name continued to be on WPI website long after she joined the AAP.

Prof. Akhtarul Wasey has been appointed as the Commissioner for Linguistic Minorities, which is a Constitutional authority tasked with the protection of the rights of these minorities in the country.
Prof Wasey, who is currently working as Director of the Dr Zakir Husain Institute of Islamic Studies, is the 12th head of the Commission set up in 1957.
Prof Wasey has been the Vice Chairman of the Delhi Urdu Academy and has also served as the Chairman of a Sub-Committee under National Monitoring Committee for Minorities Education for the Promotion of Urdu Language and he has submitted his report last December to the Union Minister for Human Resource Development.
Awarded with Padma Shri last year, Prof Wasey has also been on various academic assignments abroad. He is politically well connected in Delhi and was known as an acolyte of late Congress leader Arjun Singh.

Syed Adeel Raza, Shia community leader from Karnataka has been nominated to the Karnataka Waqf Board for a vacant slot in the Board due to termination of the membership of two former members. He was Chairman of the State Hajj Committee for some time in the past too.

New Principal: Dr. Shobharani R. Hiremath has been appointed the new principal of the Al-Ameen College of Pharmacy with effect from March 3. Dr. V. KusumDevi was appointed vice principal.
Badar Sayeed in AAP: Noted advocate and former AIADMK MLA from Triplicane constituency in Chennai, joined Aam Aadmi Party on March 5. Badar Sayeed had represented the Assembly constituency from 2006-11. Tamilnadu AAP spokesman M. Lenin said Sayeed would contest in the forthcoming election. She was also chairman of the TN State Waqf Board for a term.

Tablighi Jamaat Chief Dead: Maulana Zubairul Hassan, chief (Ameer) of Tablighi Jamaat in India died in the Ram Manohar Lohia Hospital on March 18. He was 65. He leaves behind his wife, four sons and four daughters. He was ailing for some time. He was buried in Basti Nizamuddin graveyard the same evening. He was son of former Tablighi Jamaat Ameer Maulana Inamul Hassan.

Back in Congress: Jabbarkhan Honnali, former MLA, is back in Congress. He had joined the Karnataka Janata Party formed by the former BJP leader B. S. Yeddyurappa after leaving the BJP. Honnali is the President of the Anjuman Islam, Hubli, an almost century old organization and had been elected MLA for two terms on the Congress ticket.
