Begum Khursheed Khwaja Forgotten!

Reconsidering Our Perspective
Voting Rights for Non-Resident Indians
Grand Claims about Glass Mosque

I am a lifetime subscriber of Islamic Voice. This is with reference to the issue of July 2018 and the article in “Women’s Voice” published on page 12 under the caption “Beyond Purdah.” Perhaps because of some incomplete information or inadvertently, the name of my maternal grandmother, Begum Khursheed Khwaja is missing. She was the eldest of the daughters of late Nawab Sarbuland Jung (Nawab Hameed Ullah Jung), who was the last minister of Justice under the rule of the Nizam of Hyderabad till independence. I am sending a profile about her contribution towards the education of Muslim women at Allahabad, specially during the period 1932-47 when she and her husband shifted to Allahabad for about 15 years from Aligarh, at the peak of the Quit India Movement. Incidentally, her husband Ex-MLC of UP and barrister, late Abdul Majeed Khwaja was one of the four founders of Jamia Milla Islamia, Delhi. Trust you will include her name in the future whenever possible.
