The Muslim candidates have scripted a new chapter with some extraordinary successes in terms of numbers in this year’s UPSC list of successful candidates. Around 48 names are clearly identifiable as Muslim, while some sources put the number of Muslims at 50. The total number of candidates cleared for appointment is 1099.
Bilal Mohiuddin Bhat who is topmost among the successful Muslim candidates hails from Handwara in north Kashmir. He got the 10th rank. Muzammil Khan is placed 22nd while Shaikh Tanweer Asif from Gulbarga has been ranked 25th.
There is cheer in the Kashmir Valley too from where a record 14 candidates figure in the final list. Suhail Qasim Mir, 26 who has secured the 125th rank is son of head constable Mohammad Qasim Mir of Jammu and Kashmir, and is a resident of Bijbehara in Anantnag district. There are seven more Muslims from the State figuring in the list. They are: Inayat from Darhal, Syed Fakhruddin, Inabat Khaliq, Sahil Dhingra, Saqib Yousuf, Faisal Javed, and Amir Basher.
A press release from Jamia Millia’s Residential Coaching Academy said that as many as 27 candidates who received coaching at Jamia Millia Islamia’s Residential Coaching Academy (RCA) qualified for UPSC’s Civil Services Examinations, 2016. Of these, five have made it to the IAS, two to the IPS including a girl, Bisma Qazi and the rest to the Revenue, Customs, Railways and other services. Of these 27 candidates, nine are women and 15 are Muslims.
Arif Ahsan, who has made it to the IAS securing 74th rank, is a pass-out of Jamia School and has also done his B. Tech (Electrical Engineering) from JMI. Arif said that JMI has shaped his life since he was a young boy in school and has made him what he is today.
Twenty six year old, Suhail Qasim Mir, who has secured 125th rank, had studied MBA at the Centre for Management Studies, Jamia Millia Islamia. He is also pursuing his Ph. D. at JMI’s Management centre.
RCA provided more than 700 hours of coaching comprising of classes, special lectures, group discussions, test series and mock interviews to the aspirants of Civil Services 2016.
