The newly established Maulana Azad University in Jodhpur has appealed for financial assistance for construction of its new campus in the outskirts of the city.
General Secretary of the Marwar Muslim Educational and Welfare Society, Mohammed Atique who was here on a visit, told Islamic Voice, the Society has to construct the 100,000 sq. ft building within next 16 months on the 56-acre plot it had purchased. He said the previous Rajasthan Government had sanctioned Rs. 10 crore for the purpose, but the current government which assumed charge in December, has put the matter in abeyance.
Under the Ordinance of the Maulana Azad University 2013, the Society has to complete the construction of the campus within two years.
The Marwar Muslim Educational and Welfare Society was set up in 1970 and came up with Maulana Azad Muslim Senior Secondary school in 1988. It was followed by Firoz Khan Memorial Girls Senior Secondary School in 1994. ITI came up in 2003 and Muslim Teachers Training College was established in 2006. Muslim Mahila Training College and Muslim Teachers Training School (BSTC) were started in 2007. Mai Khadija Institute of Nursing Sciences was added in 2009 while Maulana Azad Institute of Pharmacy commenced in 2012. It altogether runs around 30 institutions and programmes.
Besides, the Society has set up a Marwar Muslim Adarsh Gaushala (asylum for cows) and a veterinary hospital, Information cum Facilitating Centre for Farmers, Minority Education for Growth and Advancement of Skills for Youth (mega-Sky) and also maintains an Ambulance service in Jodhpur.
The Society receives about Rs. 70 lakhs from the Takiya Chand Shah Waqf property which has been developed into shopping complex in the heart of the city of Jodhpur.
