Muslim Women Find Leadership Roles in a Male-dominated World

A Coptic Christian woman Manal Awad Mikhail has been appointed the governor of the Egyptian province of Damietta, on the delta of the River Nile. She has become the first Coptic Woman Governor in the nation where 10% people belong to Coptic Christian faith.
Her appointment comes in the wake of a reshuffle affected by the Military dictator, Abdul Fattah el-Sisi who appointed new governors to several provinces on August 30. She was previously the deputy governor of Giza province. Though the first woman was appointed as Governor (of Beheira) only last year, Manal is the first non-Muslim Governor to hold the office.
Christians, who constitute about 10% of Egypt’s Muslim-majority population of 100 million, have long complained of discrimination and their under-representation in top government positions. Associated Press said.
