Anees Shaikh, Sreekar Voleti and Parikshit Rao, three high school students in Gurgaon, have invented a device for the visually-impaired. The device, called CommuniCane, is fitted with a sound alarm, which goes off if there is any vehicle or other obstruction in the way. It has a voice navigator for audio directions, which is attached to a cell phone. The user can feed the details of the location into her or his cell phone and an in-built mechanism provides audio directions. If the user takes a wrong turn, it repeats the right directions and helps put him or her back on track. It also has an emergency SMS service system, connecting the phone to an emergency contact if the cane falls.
