We, at Foster, do not teach our students to find answers to questions, we rather develop curiosity in them.
K. Abdul Wajid is the President of Foster Education Trust. He graduated in 1968 in B.Sc. In 1972, he came up with the idea of opening a school and with the help of a group of intellectuals, he set up a school under the aegis of “Balak Education Society.” Serving ever since, lately he was motivated by the idea of Islamic schooling and this took shape as “Foster Muslim Heritage School”.
Abdul Haseeb Umri Madni is secretary of Foster Muslim Heritage School. He joined the Islamic University of Madinah and took B.A in Islamic Jurisprudence as his core subject and was awarded with Gold medal and a degree for the same, in 2000. With this certification, he did not stop his formal studies, until he completed his M.A in Arabic Literature from Madras university and currently is involved in dawah activities at the Centre for Islamic Studies (CIS) and is Professor of hadeeth at Imam Nazeer Husain University, Bangalore.
“We, at Foster, do not teach our students to find answers to questions, we rather develop curiosity in them. Our motto is not to make our wards grasp things; we want them to learn what nature wants to teach them by stimulating their intellect, as it was rightly said by a physics genius, Albert Einstein: “Education is not the learning of facts but training of the mind to think. Our concentration is mainly on linguistic eloquence, as language is the basic element of understanding, expressing thoughts, nurturing creative minds, and establishing a healthy social environment. Our elementary education constitutes teaching our children Kannada, Hindi, English, Urdu, Arabic, French and other languages that will open up an array of opportunities to our students ensuring their success, in both ‘worlds, says Suhail Rasheed.
The power to learn language is so great in the young child that it doesn’t seem to matter how many languages you seem to throw way. They can learn as many spoken languages as you can allow them to hear systematically and regularly at the same time. Children just have this capacity. Their brain is just ripe to do this. There doesn’t seem to be any detriment to learning several spoken languages at the same time. We believe this is the right time for our wards to learn as many languages as they can and to simplify their learning process, we involve them in language lab and activity based learning as we believe that pragmatic education is more effective and this also helps develop their personality.
Activities such as skits, plays, newscasts, debates, group discussion and other forms of drama and social awareness programs/activities provide them with an entirely new dimension in learning languages.
Our methodology ensures that our children are not exposed to the typical stressful environment prevalent in most academic institutions. We teach our children to live by the teachings of Qur’an and Sunnah. Not only do we teach our students the way of life as per the authentic Islamic scriptures, we also pay specific attention to inculcate the sense of Ehsan (doing good things in the best way) in them.
