Bengaluru: In a unique initiative, the Muslim Industrialists Association has launched a programme for training students in Social Work together with enabling them to earn an MSW (Master of Social Work) degree. The Association began the selection process on June 24 after social media advertisements. According to the Association’s President Mr. Meer Abdul Hafeez, the students, who will be enrolled in the two-year MSW degree course of the Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU), will be provided accommodation in Bengaluru. They will be provided mentorship through a series of lectures, workshops, seminars, group discussions and orientation in the morning hours and will be attached to some prominent NGO in the city to work with them and gain practical experience in the afternoons and the evenings. Mr. Hafeez said the programme will enable students to learn the nitty-gritty of social work through internship with NGOs.
Several candidates from the south Indian states were interviewed on June 23 at the Association’s office in Darussalam Building on Queen’s Road by a group of panelists with long stint in social work.  The Association is a non-profit charitable society established in 2004 by successful industrialists and businessmen with an aim to develop the community. It was started as an association and then as activities increased, in 2007 it was transformed into a Society and is now registered under the Indian Societies Act.
