Assistance to Md. Aamir – NHRC Issues 4th Notice

New Delhi: The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) has issued a notice to the Delhi Government for the fourth time to provide Rs. 5 lakh to Mohammed Aamir who was acquitted of all cases of terrorism after being found innocent. Aamir was arrested on 27th February 1998 while he was only 18 years old and detained for nearly 18 years under false cases of terrorism. The Delhi Police had implicated him in 18 different false cases. He was acquitted of all charges in 2014 after being found totally innocent. Following this, the NHRC had issued the first notice to Union Home Ministry and Delhi Police asking them to provide him financial assistance on March 1, 2014. The Commission issued a second notice on December 5, 2014 to Chief Secretary of the Delhi Government. A third notice was issued on 11th August 2016. But the relevant authorities did not pay any heed to these notices. The Commission has issued a fourth notice to the Delhi Government on January 10 this year.
It may be recalled that Aamir’s father died while he was under detention and her mother died during 2015 after his release due to illness she had been afflicted with, due to anguish caused by her son’s continued detention.
