Bengaluru: Foundation was laid here for the construction of a commercial complex on the 20,000 sq. ft. land on Queens Road for the over 125-year old Muslim Orphanage on July 12. The plot exists adjacent to Darussalam complex, which was constructed around three decades earlier and yields revenue for the Orphanage.
Karnataka Minister for Food and Civil Supplies and Waqf, Mr. B. Z. Zameer Ahmad Khan commenced the work by ceremonial excavation of the earth in the presence of Mr. R. Roshan Baig, MLA from the area and former minister and noted developer and builder, Mr. Irfan Razack, Chairman, Prestige Group.
According to Mr. Naveed Ahmad, Secretary, Muslim Orphanage, the four-storey complex is estimated to be constructed at a cost of Rs. 4 crore. Half of the expenses will be borne by the institution while Mr. Razack will mobilize the remaining funds from potential donors. Ahmad said the land for the complex was purchased for Rs. 2,000 in the year 1900 by some patrons of the Orphanage which had been set up in 1890. The unfenced land had come under illegal encroachment, which were removed after years long legal proceedings. (By A Staff Writer)
