Lucknow: CPI-M leader Prakash Karat who met Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav on Jan. 29, asked him to rehabilitate Muslim youth who had been cleared of terror charges.
Accompanied by CPI-M leader Subhashini Ali, party general secretary Karat handed over a list of nine Muslims, all from Kanpur, who had been jailed for eight to nine years on terror charges before being absolved of them.
Seeking their rehabilitation, social security and jobs, Karat and Ali told the chief minister that targeting such people without proof was also an attack on the secular fabric of the country.
The chief minister assured the duo that his government and the Samajwadi Party (SP) had declared in their manifesto that innocent Muslims who have been jailed on fabricated charges would be helped.
“Innocent Muslim youngsters who have been falsely implicated on terror charges will not only be helped in their legal battle and freed, but the state government will give them justice and compensation,” Yadav told the communist leaders.
