Sahih Bukhari in Kannada Language

Sahih Al-Bukhari, the collection of Hadith by Imam Bukhari is now available in Kannada language. An abridged version of Bukhari titled Sahih Bukhari in Kannada was released here on May 11 at a function at Town Hall by publishers, Shanthi Prakashana, the Kannada publishing house of Jamaat e Islami Hind. The volume running into 925 pages carries nearly 2,000 hadith the Prophet (pbuh) compiled by Imam Bukhari. It is priced at Rs. 460. Mufti Ashraf Ali, the muhtamim of Darul Uloom Sabeelur Rashad released the first copy. The function was attended by Dr. Chandra Shekhar Kambara, vice chancellor,Kannada University, Hampi and noted Kannada writer Marul Siddappa. The Hadiths were translated into Kannada by Mr. M. Sadullah, veteran Kannada writer and editor of Sanmarga weekly. It took him one year to render the work in the language. K. M. Ashraf, secretary of the Karnataka zone said Shanthi Prakashana was set up 25 years ago and it has so far published 250 books in Kannada language and publishes the Kannada weekly Sanmarga. Kannada language, the official language of Karnataka, is spoken by nearly 40 million people, mainly in Karnataka. Publication of Sahih Bukhari is a valuable addition to the corpus of Islamic literature in Kannada.
