Mauritius President: The Government of Mauritius designated Ameenah Garib-Fakim as the next president of the Mauritius. She will be the first woman to hold the position of the island nation. The 56-year old professor of chemistry did her B.Sc from University of Surrey (UK) and later did her doctorate from the University of Exeter. She was pro-vice chancellor of University of Mauritius and served in several capacities on several scientific bodies in Mauritius and the African Continent. She will be the second Muslim to become president of Mauritius. Mr. Cassam Uteem was the first President of Mauritius designated in 1992. He served for nearly 10 years and resigned from the post three months before his term was to end after refusing to sign an Anti-terrorism Bill called PoTA.
