A Doctor with a Golden Heart

Veteran Urdu columnist Som Anand died after prolonged illness on September 15. He was 87.
Anand’s columns were regularly carried by Urdu Daily Siasat, Hyderabad for decades. Born in Lahore, his family shifted to Delhi at the Partition of the subcontinent. He began his journalistic career from Statesman and got associated with UNI Urdu section in 1992 when it began operations. He also regularly wrote for Lahore Daily “Imroze”.
He had intimate attachment with Lahore and he chronicled his childhood days in a book “Batein Lahore Ki” which was published by Maktaba Jamia Limited. Later he wrote “Kahan gaya Mera Lahore” based on his reminiscences in 2003. He was born in Kasur, but spent his childhood in Lahore. He remained unmarried and was cremated on Sept. 15th evening.
