Reflections on Education

There is a general clamour among Indian Muslims that they are lagging behind on the development front. But few people can analyse the reasons properly. Open any Urdu newspaper and you will come up with at least four or five reports about mushaira or shamee-
ghazal. International mushairas can be organized by Muslims in a jiffy, but the community does not have even district level schools. We serve a steady diet of afsanas (short stories) and ghazals, but Hindi newspapers are replete with reports about coaching, entrance tests and exercises for AIEEE, IIT-JEE, CAT, CLAT, MAT etc. The Hindi newspapers organize workshops on journalism and training the budding writers. It is time we realized our own deficiencies and act in the interest of promoting modern education and skills
among the younger generation. S. Haque Patna
