The conference aims at highlighting the societal relevance of the Institution of zakat in Islam.

Calicut: Baithuzzakath Kerala, an NGO is convening a 3-day International Zakat Conference in Ernakulam on April 27-29. The first day of the conclave will be a conference open for all while the subsequent two days will be devoted to a seminar for discussion on various aspects for a collective zakat system. The conference will have delegates and participants from Malaysia, Sri Lanka, Sudan, Turkey, Indonesia, Bangladesh and the six GCC countries besides India.
The seminar will have five sessions devoted to 1- Zakat theory and practice, 2- Zakat and Social Development, 3- Management and Administration of Zakat, 4- Zakat and the Development of Indian Society, and, 5- Zakat and Economic Development.
Mr. C. P. Habeeb Rahman, Organising convener told Islamic Voice that the conference aims at highlighting the social development aspect and societal relevance of the Institution of zakat in Islam, and network the academic and research activities related with zakat. Baithuzzakath has been active in the field of socio-economic development for the last 17 years. It has aided construction of 525 houses for the weaker sections, provided part aid for 2,310 houses, provided higher education scholarships for 1,706 students, assisted 2,758 patients, and given monetary relief for 1,440 indebted people, and created employment opportunities for 1,185 people. On collective level, it has organized drinking water for several villages in the backward areas and ration and pension for deserving people.
