New Delhi: The trained women artisans in the Jamia area, who have been associated with the outreach programme of Jamia Millia Islamia and women artisans of the Balak Mata Centres (women and child centres) of Jamia Millia Islamia, located in three different parts of the city, took part in “Shilpkala Utsav”- 2013, a women artisan’s Craft Bazaar, organised by the All India Women’s Conference from 21st ““ 23rd October, 2013, at Aga Khan Hall, Bhagwan Dass Road.
Shilpkala Utsav is a unique initiative. It features only women artisans and focuses on revival of crafts, empowerment of women artisans and elimination of the middleman, whereby women artisans can directly sell their products to the consumers. It aims to preserve a vital component of India’s national heritage, the traditional arts and crafts of India.
The participation of Jamia Millia Islamia in the Shilpkala Utsav was initiated by the University’s Outreach Programme. This is the second year that Jamia has participated in the Shilpkala Utsav.
