Islamic scholar and former P r e s i d e n t ( A m e e r ) of Jamaat e Islami Hind, Prof. Muhammad Abdul Haq Ansari, died of cardiac arrest on October 3 at his residence in Aligarh. He was 81. An Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) alumnus (Ph.D. in Philosophy in 1962 from AMU), he travelled to USA in 1972 to study Comparative Religion and Theology at Harvard University. He taught at Shantiniken University in West Bengal for several years and later took up a teaching assignment at the King Saudi University in Riyadh. He authored several books on Tasawwuf and Shariah and learning the language of the Quran. Prof. Ansari was born on September 1, 1931 at Tamkohi in district Deoaria of Uttar Pradesh. He was buried at Aligarh.
